1. Do I need to buy materials for my weekly assignments?

All basic materials for the first trimester of the course are provided and are included in the students' fees. For the development of your personal project during the second trimester, you will need to obtain your own materials.

2. What title will I receive when I graduate?

You will receive a Diploma of Fabricademy, Textile and Technology academy, part of the Academany distributed campus.

3. What is the minimum weekly commitment required?

A minimum commitment of 20 hours per week is required to follow the lectures, workshops and execute the assignments.

4. What should my portfolio include?

Your portfolio should showcase your passions, strengths, and unique perspective. Include your latest creations and research—concepts, sketches, prototypes, videos, digital pieces, etc.—to illustrate your process and ideas. You can submit it as a PDF, slideshow, or website link.

5. What are the qualification requirements?

Anyone can study in Fabricademy, whether you are coming from an engineering background, artistic, design or scientific one.

6. Can I apply if I don’t have a University degree?

Yes, you can apply without holding a degree.

7. What if I do not speak English?

The course is offered in English and participants are asked to present their work in English.
If you do not feel confident with your English we would suggest that you try to start slowly practicing a little daily.

8. What do I need to bring with me for following the classes?

9. How can I choose the Node?

Each Node has gone through an approval process to ensure a cohesive and leveled execution of the program.
Attending the program in Japan, the Netherlands, Spain or Jordan offers a very similar equipment setup, yet each node has its own characteristics and special features - technological, cultural, material or contextual.

Each node is led by one (or more) trained Fabricademy instructor - a guru that supports the participants in the methodological and hands-on learning, tackling of challenges during experimentation and provides inspiring approaches to innovation to foster individual growth in the participants.

10. How many places does each Node accept?

Fabricademy offers personalized one-to-one mentoring for each participant. Our global cohort is organized into curated lab groups, typically consisting of 4-5 participants, but ranging from 3 to 12. If your preferred location is full, we will recommend an alternative lab.

11. Is it necessary to have access to a Fab Lab or Makerspace?

A physical space that provides the equipment and materials is necessary for the hands-on components of the program. This could be a local Fab Lab, university workshop, a community makerspace or your private lab.

12. Can I attend Fabricademy from home?

Yes, you can participate online with the requirement that you have access to a Fab Lab or makerspace for the practical, hands-on experimentation. You will be assigned to a remote instructor that meets with you online twice a week and guides you throughout the whole program.

13. How Can I Find a Fab Lab or Makerspace?

First check if you can attend the course at any of our accredited LABS. If it is not possible, there are many resources available to help you find one: Search your closest lab at fablabs.io and on the internet. Look for local makerspaces, maker communities or co-working spaces with fab lab equipment. Contact Local Universities and Tech Centers to learn if they offer access to the public.

14. Which skills are recommended to have before starting the program?

We highly recommend applicants to start exploring any 3D modeling software, with a preference to Blender or Rhinoceros 3D

15. Am I eligible if I have no prior experience in programming, fabrication or don't come from a design background?

During the course you will get the training and our experts will guide you in applying cutting edge tools to your projects. If you are already experienced in the topics, you will have the opportunity to dive further and evolve your expertise.

16. Can I bring my own project to develop?

Yes. Fabricademy takes you through a series of principles and practices that you will integrate into a personal project. The whole process can be targeted and the results more fulfilling if you already have a project in mind or in a state of development. If you don’t yet have a project, don’t worry.. The fabricademy program will inspire you more than enough to find one or more.

17. What kinds of projects can I develop during Fabricademy?

During the 6-month program, you will learn and develop new skills in textiles, digital fabrication, electronics and biodesign, leading up to a final project in the second phase of the program. Projects can range from fashion pieces and art performances, to functional machines and installations, offering a variety of creative options.

19. Can I participate while having a part-time job?

Yes. You can enrol in Fabricademy with a part-time job, as long as you can dedicate a minimum of 20 hours weekly to attend the lectures and workshops necessary to fulfil the assignments.

20. How much is the tuition fee?

The tuition fee for the ORIGINAL 6-month program ranges between 8000 USD (Europe, United States and Canada) and 6000 USD (the rest of the world). All details, early birds and other rates are to be found in the application procedure section.

21. What other costs should I take into account?

You should be able to cover living expenses, such as house rental, bills, transport, food, clothing, personal services etc. For students requiring a VISA, please also check financial requirements at your embassy.

22. Can I get a scholarship?

Fabricademy offers limited annual scholarships, communication thereof happens via newsletter and social media. Often, participants can access scholarships in their own country for studying abroad.

23. Can I get my company to pay for this?

Of course! Many companies support their employees to take courses and advance their team’s skill set. Fabricademy is an excellent opportunity to bootstrap your knowledge both in technical matters, as well as project management and development geared towards innovation practices.
